Trying to condense website of 98 pages to less - by moving content to other relevant product pages.
In the process I will need to create some 301 redirects. Sound s simple really!
BUT, hosting is "shared" server. Its a Linux platform - and the "real" server is Apache. I have no cPanel and no access to Apache rewrite engine.
The "support" tell me 301 redirects are OK - well that may be so - after a week and help from support - I finally managed to get ONE redirect to function.
OK.. now I have the supposed working format in front of me.
Redirect 301 /oldfile.html http://www.domain.com/folder1/folder2/newfile.html
Not functional- I try full URLS
Redirect 301 /http://www.domain.com/folder1/folder2/oldfile.html html http://www.domain.com/folder1/folder3/newfile.html
it worked! So today I try a second redirect using the same paths from the actual website structure.
2 hours later - not works! Although one redirect opened a totally different page as the "newfile" target!
Is it that I need to wait of for the server to understand whats happening and react..
My other question is... I need to redirect about 10 pages - I assume the go on the .htaccess file in list files and with a blank line separator.
