Default scrolling text

Is there a more appropriate way to accomplish a simple ticker other than using the <marquee> tag?

Thank you I'll check it out in the morning. the pause on mouse over is nice. Out of curiosity, what if anything makes this better than <marquee> ??

As well as the potential for extra functionality, like the pause on hover, marquee was deprecated as a tag a while ago.

<marquee> is not HTML. Actually never was. It's not even a deprecated HTML tag.

Hmmm surprisingly its not terribly smooth. is there an easy way to use this but only pause when the text is moused over instead of the box? And the hand pointer over the empty box may be confusing to some, thinking there is something to click on there. I'd like to only see the hand pointer when the text is moused over.

I'm not a huge fan of scrollers in the first place but, thats what he wants and figured this was small enough to do the job without being too distracting. He actually wanted a scrolling countdown timer, but was unable to find something I liked that didnt rely on another server.

The choppy movement of the scroller actually looks worse than the <marquee> tag did.

Any suggestions?
