Default Search bar

I would like to add a search facility to my website and am looking for a tutorial to teach me how to do it, i've tried a couple but they haven't really made any sense to me can anyone help.

I expect it isn't a simple task so I am considering adding the Google custom search tool in the mean time does anyone know of a better tool. I want to only search my website and I don't want to redirect users away from my site.

I think you can set the Google search to 'Search This Site Only'. Otherwise, ideally your content needs to be in a database to create a custom search facility that is going to be any good.
