Default css for different divs

Guys, I have a div inside another one. And I'm trying to set up the <p> on the div inside but it keeps showing the main div's <p> setting. here's the code for the main :

.main_content p {
font-family:Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;
font-size:16px;
color:#000;
text-align:center;
font-weight:500;
text-transform:none;
}

and the code for the div inside main_content, called why...

.why {
height: 165px;
width: 700px;
margin-right: auto;
margin-left: auto;
margin-top: 5px;
font-family:Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif;
font-size:13.5px;
color:#000;
text-align:left;
font-weight:400;
text-transform:none;
}
why p{
font-family:Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif;
font-size:13.5px;
color:#000;
text-align:left;
font-weight:400;
text-transform:none;
margin:0 0 10px;
}

I need to align the text inside why to the left. But it keeps aligned to the center. Any suggestions? Thanks

You've missed the period out before the 'why' paragraph style declaration.
