Default How to get spry to view over my Body Div?

Hi, I have a vertical Spry menu bar. Then along side it I have my body div for my text and then on the right side, another div with links. When I view my page in explorer, my spry menu bar drop out buttons, appear behind my Body Div text. So, I added a -1 z index like so:
#body {
width: 410px;
position: relative;
top: -75px;
left: 45px;
z-index: -1;
}
This seems to do the trick but my problem is that when I go in to fix up anything on my page, my Body div tag disappears which is very annoying. It only reappears when I click back on it again. Is this normal behaviour or do you think I have done something wrong on my spry bar. Can you look at my spry vertical and see if it looks ok to you. I want to get this right, as I have to create a lot of work from this template.
