Default Beginner seeking help. CS4

I have a website idea I'm trying to put together. I used to make flash sites some 6 years ago and this is my first go with Dreamweaver.

I made this rough picture in Photoshop to preview my website layout:

So far I've read a few Dreamweaver tutorials, I know how to work from a basic template but I have a hard time working within the template with my limited knowledge of the codes.

I tried using a "3 column fixed, header and footer", then removing the left sidebar and working from there. But I get no where. I can't figure out how to re-center my main content, how to extend my header/footer all the way across the width of the screen, have two headers with various options and icons within and having them change color on click. Also something as simple as having two separate font color in one word..

Any tips/suggestions/help into approaching this layout would be great.

Yes, the background and full width menu at the top effect can be done with a long, 1px wide graphic repeating x. Your rollover images might be best using CSS sprites; http://css-tricks.com/css-sprites/. Here is an example 2 column layout and an explanation of floats; http://corrosiveonline.co.uk/tutoria...for_layout.php and your full width footer should just involve taking it outside of any wrapper used to center and making it 100% width.

2 colours in one word.... span tag maybe?

You would have been better off starting with Dreamweaver's built in 2 column fixed, header and footer layout.

Corrosive is spot on on the to and bottom sections.

Do you have experience with HTML and CSS?

And, BTW, those built in layouts in Dreamweaver are different than Dreamweaver templates (.dwt files).
If my answer helped, check out DWcourse.com for Dreamweaver tips and tutorials.
