Default considering wordpress

ive been hearing great things about wordpress lately and im thinking it would be GREAT for me and my clients if they were in charge of updates to their sites.

So i guess i have two questions. 1- how hard is it to get started? and 2- is there any way i can begin learning it before im actually building one for a client? i.e. do i need a server and all that to mess with the system?

Many thanks to any and all responders!

download it and work locally . yes you will need a server but using xxamp or Wamp or easyphp are painless processes to install

You'll need a least a good understanding of HTML and CSS (and a splash of PHP will help a lot).

Lot's of good info here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page

And be aware there are frequent updates to WordPress (some for security reasons) so you have to stay on top of it. And version 3 is do out in April (I believe).
