Default Gifs all pixelated

Hello all,

Something bugging me at the moment.

Designing a site in Dreamweaver, and designing some buttons which are various different shapes. I firstly designed them as vector in illustrator and then put them into Photoshop to save them as a gif, all the time keeping the size the same. But when in Dreamweaver the egdes are pixelated. I have used anti-aliasing and matte option for background when saving the gif. Is there a way to get smoother edges? I feel like I've tried everything!

Would appreciate any advice, thanks

Paul

Do they have to be gifs? Any reason not to use PNGs or jpegs?

Well, I thought they had to be as not to have a background. Otherwise there would be horrible white edges to the shape wouldn't there?

Why don't you save directly in Illustrator for web & devices as a gif? I don't understand why you copy the vectors to Photoshop and save from there for web & devices.

PNGs can have true transparency.

If you use a gif, make sure the background matte color exactly matches the color that it will be placed over.
