Default permissions

PHP 5.3.1 - Linux Fedora

I am having a nightmare with image resizing and thumbnail creation.

When uploading and resizing an image I receive the error "Error converting image (resize image). The "" folder has no write permissions".

When I attempt to resize images (already created before uploading to server) I get the error "Error converting image (create thumbnail). The "" folder has no write permissions".

It's driving me crazy as all folders with images are chmod 777.

Does DW have a temp directory it uses to do the conversions of images???

I have changed permissions on all temp folders I can find on site to 777 but still no joy. I have found the same issues on several forums however no one seems to have an answer to why this is happening.

Please help. It's been a week long nightmare .
