Default using real fonts on your website

Hey guys, I believe the time is really there that we can use real fonts on our websites. Typekit is the company that has made it happen and has already great font-foundries in their library, like FontFace, Underware, Betatype, Fonthead and many more.

I did try sIFR in the past, but I was not so fond about this method because what it did it was making a Flash movie from the typeface and you could use it only for headlines and not complete paragraphs.

I will give it a try with Typekit and see what it does or does anyone else already tried it?

Not tried it but it looks interesting. Let us know how you get on.

Well... that went pretty easy

Sign up for a trial account, add 2 lines of javascript to your HEAD, choose your font, select on which CSS selector the font must be used, publish... and that's it!

I've tested it on my re-design page and I used it on the H1 tag. The trial font-library has not that many nice fonts, so I tested it with the typeface Legitima.
And I have a Typekit badge underneath in the right corner of my page, but that goes away if you upgrade and pay for the service.

Conclusion: Up and running in 2 minutes and it renders very well & quick!

Have a look: http://www.gentlemedia.nl/indexter.php

I can use 2 fonts on on 1 website, so I also took a font (font-face "Report") and putted this one on the paragraphs and links for testing.

So! No hassle at all and still a fast page loading. This is really cool!!!
A much better alternative than sIFR.

Maybe we'll get @font-face support one day.

You're right, but it was fun experimenting with it... I took it off my page so the test case is closed

With Typekit the font is just the font and that's what I like so much about this one. No converting to images (Dynamic Text Replacement) and no converting to Flash (sIFR).
Ans it supports IE.

Typekit is interesting but I'm not interested in a paid, proprietary solution. Free, simple, open-source and I can run it on my server and I might think about it but even though this is designer heresy, do we really need thousands of typeface options for 95% of what we do online?
