Default large pic issue !!!

guys i have a large banner pic. it take lot of time to load.
i want to know how to cut it in small pieces.
hope u understand...

you mean slices? use an image editor
i would first look to see if the image size can be optimised and or resized, if it is taking so long to download

Yes, agree with Ed. Save for web and 70 - 80% in Photoshop should do it. This strips out meta data and slims images right down. By 'Save for web' I do NOT mean 'Save as HTML'...this is totally different and to be avoided!

Depending on the image of course I would see if you cannot optimize it even more than 70%.

actually i don't know what exactly it is called. but i want to cut a large image in small pieces.
i think it is slicing !!!!

Cutting it up will *increase* load time, not decrease it.

so you mean that as i have a banner image of abt. 790*180px so i keep it as it is.....
not need to change or modification ???

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you have optimised the image for web as I described earlier.

The reason you don't want to slice it up is the increase of HTTP requests to the server. A browser only downloads so many files simultaneously, so by keeping the file count down, you're in a way optimizing the website for speed.
