Default Newbie need some easy help.

Hey guys I'm trying to create a simple web page with the logo at the top staying consistent Navigation bar on the left staying consistent and a box with text and maybe images on the right staying consistent.

In the center I want to display the articles directories and the articles themselves. here are a few difficulties I am finding.

First of all what should I use for the design of the page which will stay consistent(the logo, navigation bar and the text on the right) DO I just design each individual page with those things unchanged? or is there an easier more efficient way where I tell those things not to change?

Secondly is using a table the best way to arrange a layout? if so, how do I get the dimension of the table not to be the same for every cell in a row or a column and have different dimension for each individual cell?

thirdly how do I change the colours of the page. Say I want the navigation bars and the logo side of the page to have one colour but the bit where the articles will go to have a different colour. can I make the edges rounded? Dropshadow. (I have photoshop)

Lastly for the articles do I just start writing the text or is there a kind of a text box tool or something that will dedicate and manage the space for the text(I may also add images) better.

I will greatly appreciate any help guys....

I am new, just about finished my first php website with Dreamweaver. I assume you will be using some PHP? I hope you do.
Here's what I learned so far:
- I was told by a Dreamweaver user that 2 column hybrid left sidebar (em) with header and footer works for what you want, which is the same as my requirements. Seems to work for me although occasionally when I have the main content area too large it drops below my sidebar, so be careful of sizing. This will keep your consistency of placement.
- I use tables occasionally to help me place something, but it is not the most efficient way to do it. Most modern programmers gag if they hear you used tables. But I mostly use the dynamic tables that Dreamweaver can create, to show the records from MySQL that I want to display.
- Make a template. I didn't do that and I am paying the price.
- Set up an external style sheet so that every page doesn't make its own. I didn't do that and am paying the price.
- Set your page properties to your background and font colors, and all your link colors. Write it down. Set your font and background colors for the header, footer, maincontent, etc right in your code, they are styles near the top of your document, or do it in your stylesheet box. The latter is better. If it's a simple project and your pages are much the same you can just copy one page to another each time, or simply use templates.
- I know that you can load text and images from files on the fly instead of just writing text directly into your page. Someone here may advise how to do that, if so I will also like to know how.
I hope my above wrongdoings may help you avoid the same mistakes. Also I am just learning so may others kindly correct my inexactitudes. I look forward to that.

regards,
ghiebert

Best way to learn this is to get an existing template and examine it viewing how everything is placed.

This is exactly what tables are for. Displaying tabular data such as the data you have got from your SQL database. Use div tags for layout and tables for data...you can't go wrong

Can you post your code or a URL and we can take a look?

You'll never find one tutorial. SEO is a number of techniques and good practices. Correct markup, back links, good content etc.

Also in the future. say i have a Homepage. On the hompage and each page of the siteI will have 4 buttons linking to different articles sections , in each article section there will be all the articles articles, now each page will also have a section where the lates atricles will be linked.

So say I have like 20 articles and I want to add another article. I don't want to go around changing each individual article page just to add the link to the new article. is there some tool or way that makes this job easier or is this what I will have to do manually. I had a look through the templates and all I really got from them is how to organise the website on my hard drive for easy uploading later on.
