I think you might have misunderstood my question : )

I know how to change items in the menu, but I would really like to know, how to change the appearance of the drop down menu itself

but of the 2 examples you gave , online it looks like the one you said in dreamweaver, the first example.
so im more cofused, if you seee it differently is why i asked if you have refreshed the browser cache

It doesn't really matter how the site looks in DW live view.

Select/option menus are going to look different on different browsers, you don;t design them.
