Jquery lesser than javascript ?

Why is it that when I speak to javascript web developers they are always so harsh on jquery. I mean I used to code in Javascript and whenI got hold of JJquery I though fantastic this is like what bootrap is to css a framework. Why all the negativity about it. People kepe talking about Nod and angular js frameworks but how often are those things actually used? Sometimes it feels like web developers have a chip on their shoulder to be able to say oh i use node, angular or even python when for the project you are doing it just isnt the best option.
