FTP is a good way to transfer your files to the server because you can drag all your files at once to the folder on your server instead of uploading each file one at a time.

Its great it does come with some security issues though when transferring files via ftp protocols onto a website personally id rather just zip a bunch of folders up and upload it and extract on the website where its needed. This can be a issue if you web host has limits on uploads sizes and times that's why ftp is there.
