Default Spry Menu Tutorial?

Ok, i've seen many tutorials and have used many in the past. However, they all seem to be very basic spry menus but with just a bit of colour added.

I want to upgrade to something a little more stylish, does anyone have any recommendations or tutorials?

I have seen a few softwares to download that publish you a creative spry menu, but they all cost a fair bit, are they any good?

If jquery has replaced spry, then perhaps I shouldn't be trying so hard to learn to control a spry menu...

Well... for menus you don't need any javascript unless you need to support IE6 which does not support :hover on anything else other then anchor tags.
