Default Piecing together a lost WordPress site

I have a new client who's business partner left and took their web site, logo files, twitter, facebook access, etc. with him. He was the legal owner of the business (a medical massage company) but she is the massage therapist and ran the actual physical business.

My client is still trying to run her business under a newly registered, similar business name but the web site no longer functions and she has none of the information about the site files, email accounts, hosting, etc. The former hosting company will not talk to her because she was not their contact.

I've been able to save the web site files from the Google cache and some other sources but since it is in WordPress, it is a mess. The photos & text show up but it looks as if there is no css file or formatting.

I know Dreamweaver very well but do not have any experience with WordPress at all. I uploaded all of the files to a temp address. Can anyone give me some advice on how to start piecing this back together? Or should I just start over and rebuild it in Dreamweaver?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

i would want to be sure that your client has any rights to use the pieces from the old site - imo i would doubt she has if the partner was the owner of the firm. i would start afresh with new content and graphics.

I think starting again is your best option. Wouldn't it be great to reinvent the business and then get higher than the original owner in search engines? That'd be a fantastic sales pitch

Thanks for your input, I would love to start new but I don't think its in their budget right now since the web site was fairly new. However, there has been a change.. The site seems to be up now at http://www.nerveanatherapy.com. Is there anything that I can do to save the site since it is now functional? (At least it is for the time being)??

I really doubt there is an option, if the owner has removed this and was the registered owner thyen i suspect thats it! if he/she wanted them used they would have been left . I would be wary of being dragged into a legal case here if the site etc is recreated. Srtart a new oneI dont think your client has a choice

I can't really help either, but all I can say is... be aware before you get dragged into a legal lawsuit as well because of this.
