Email Validation

I am trying to validate an 'email address' in a contact form. I installed the 'Spry Validation Text Field' and choose Email Address as the type in the Properties Tab. I am having trouble hiding the 'invalid format' and 'a value is required' preview states. I want them to appear when the user has not entered a text or a valid email address as I have seen at http://http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/validationwidge ts/TextfieldValidationSample.html and not like the attached link below. The following script is active..'var sprytextfield1 = new Spry.Widget.VaildationTextField("emailValidation", "email", {validationOn: ["blur"]});.
Go to www.designthelight.com/pages/contact3.html to see image.

Thanks

Spry Validation Backwards

When I use 'Spry Validation Text Field' on a input tag for a 'name' for instance in a 'contact page', the validation is backwards. In Live View the error message' A Value is Required' is displayed before anything is inputted or the submit button is clicked. When the submit button is click without entering anything in the 'input' tag the error message disappears, when is should be executed.

Any ideas...Thanks

If I build a site for a company I always suggest to use an external real-time validation company for the forms and stuff. I personally use They do a great job with that.

i cant see any advantage to doing that. spty or javascipt are client side if using external thenyou may as well use serverside validation

I do have server side validation via my PHP email program. I just thought it would be user friendly to have an error message on the 'contact' page. The server side validation occurs on a new page, so the client has to go back fill in the form again.

yes i agree the best description of client side (ie javascript) was that its not validation but a form helper being fast error checking . Its maybe not strictly true but for me its a good description
