in case you don't know by now. Lets encrypt issues free certificates to secure your site issuing ssl (csr) certificates.
i have been using for a while and have been accepted across the board so far. as this is supported by some big hitters like google im sure it will continue.
in January they announce that they will issue wildcard ssl also.

setting up is recommended by shell access wherein the certificates are renewed automatically. unless your server actively supports lets encrypt
If your server does not allow shell access , as many shared hosting accounts dont, you can use sites like https://www.sslforfree.com/ (https://www.sslforfree.com/http://)

to issue your certificates. The plus side of this site is if you create an account they will notify uyou in advance of the certificate expiry.

Another cool site is keychest.net. here you can spot check validity of any site plus by creating an acount ( free) you can add servers to your dashboard to monitor validity of all your servers
