View Full Version : Installing and setting up Magento 2 using a temp url.

06-01-2016, 07:51 PM
Hi All,

I installed Magento 2 on my server, and it gave me the URL for my admin/dashboard as [mydomain]/store/admin. The problem is, I am using a temp domain URL while I complete the installation of Magento and don't want to point my domain from my current site to my new one until it is complete.

Is there a way of accessing the dashboard without pointing the domain? I tried the [temp domain]/store/admin and that just generated the error.

i always found magento to be a PIA so i dont have much of a clue.
but i would check and config pages and .htacces pages i would imagine the 'pointing' is controlled from there , if so make backups and modify them to your url

Thanks for the info, i agree that this is a PIA and to be honest, i have had more trouble with this then any other element of the site 10x over.

Are there any other open-source carts with video options built in to the product pages that you can recommend? I am only using Magento as it is free, offers video's and images in the product pages and it has a review feature that i like.

I usually user Cartweaver but this does not have these feature or social media shares, so a bit stuck with how to proceed with it really.

Hi All,

I am trying to create a picture gallery with filters to display images, text on hover and a link to go to a specific page and enlarge the image. What are the best free or paid platforms?

there are lots that do the first parts, so is a question of layout.
As fpr the link to a page with large image i dont know but if you make the link to a page with a $ _GET valueie display.php?image=image1.jpg, you can use php on the display page to render the correct image and more if you use a database.
here is a basic image grid example that you could use

Thanks Edbr, apologise for doubling up the posts, i would have put money on me creating a new thread but i must have gotten muddled with the 2 queries. Are then any easy to install plugins that you can recommend to get the job done? I would like something that looks quite smart if possible.

TBH i always think that depends on exactly what you are looking for.
How many pics how the thumbnails are displayed etc.
installing a jquery pluging is usually a standard thing, link to jquery script , link to the plugin js file, add a call back, add the gallery code where you want it to display, include the css file.

have a look at these free ones and later if i get time ill add an example of the v simple gris i sugested , its really meant for a few pics but the principle is the same .

just had a look at http://smoothgallery.jondesign.net/download/
many options there and adding to a caption <p><a href="image.php?image=my image.jpg">Show the page</a></p> will provide a link to where ever you want, if you want the pic and info on a separate page for example

This is what i am looking to recreate (http://tinyurl.com/ht6cucp) (or something close too). I have looked through the examples you provided but cant see anything that will fit the bill.

I know there are alot of WP options but finding an HTML alternative is looking bleak currently.

ok so whats wrong with using the example you give? It has link to pages and overlay large image (common enough btw) this is yur site right?

There was nothing wrong with the original, but i could not get the load more button to work. I employed 2 web developers/programmers to find a solution but neither were able to get the feature to work.

Thank you for the plugin option. This seems perfect for my needs so i will try and integrate this later to see if this is a suitable work around.
