View Full Version : Newbie Creating a Survey

Hi all :)

I'm trying to create an image-based popup survey (similar to those on Shoemint.com and Stylemint.com), but I'm having issues creating multiple pages, as well as the actual popup function.

I would like the survey to automatically pop up when a reader opens a specific page or link, and I would like the survey to move from question to question.

I'm extremely new to this program (and site building in general), so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

This will be quite tricky to pull off for a beginner.

The ones on shoe mint will be loading the answers from a database based on the users input.

You could create a static version (i.e. not using a database) but with any amount of complexity to it I'd you'd quickly come unstuck.

Really depends on what level you are trying to do this. If its for a business and you want a pro result anything like shoe mint and you'll need to hire someone or be up for some serious learning.

HTH in some way.

Thank you! Do you know of any resources I should look to for learning how to complete this?

start by having a look at tizag.com i think the tuttorials there are simple to follow.
the javascript for pop ups is not much problem but for databases i would think php personally

Don't want to discourage you but frankly if you're a total beginner to create something like ShoeMint with DB loading you've no chance. Unless you want to dedicate a good portion of your life to learning.

Frankly I'd struggle to do that on my own and I've worked on the web since 2005 and free lanced since 08. In Fact if a client approached me wanting that I'd defo team up with the developer I use.

You might be better try to aim at something more realistic.

If you do want to learn you'd need to learn:

jQuery with Ajax
Some SQL for the DB

My learning platform of choice is Lynda.com or Code School. Good luck!

If you use YouTube be careful.

Or you could try using a CMS such as wordpress and use a survey plugin. Might not be able to make it look quite as visual but at least you'd be able to do it.

Or try a service like survey monkey.
