Hi people
I have followed a step by step tutorial on how to build a PHP contact form but when I uploaded the contact.php, css etc from dreamweaver to my web host all I can see is the code on the php contact file I cannot see the actual form that can be filled in which was shown in the design view in dreamweaver. There is a comment on the tutorial by someone else who has had the same problem but I donít understand what it means, maybe someone else does?
This guy wrote: Your web server is not reading the php.ini most likely. Make a call to phpinfo() in your php file and see if the config file is being loaded.

Can anyone explain in English what this really means?

make a file , fo instance info.php,
containing the following
<?php phpinfo(); ?>

upload it to your server then call it in yur browser ie
http://www.yoourdomain/info.php and it will give you information on yur php set up

My hosting company has supplied a template of code where by I fill in the blanks. So I filled in the areas where my email info and web site domain are supposed to go. Then I uploaded to my host and now I get the error message that I created in the form. I cannot understand why this is not working? Code is below:

<form method="post" action="http://www.pimpmypics.co.uk/cgi-bin/FormMail.pl"
accept-charset="ISO-8859-1" onsubmit="var originalCharset = document.charset;
document.charset = 'ISO-8859-1';
window.onbeforeunload = function () {document.charset=originalCharset;};">
Name
<br />
<input name="realname" />
<br />
Email
<br />
<input name="pimpme@pimpmypics.co.uk" />
<br />
Message
<br />
<textarea cols="40" rows="10" name="Message"></textarea>
<br />
<input type="submit" value="submit" />
<input type="hidden" name="recipient" value="pimpme@pimpmypics.co.uk" />
<input type="hidden" name="subject" value="pimpme" />
<input type="hidden" name="redirect"
value="http://pimpmypics.co.uk/thanks.html" />
<input type="hidden" name="missing_fields_redirect"
value="http://www.pimpmypics.co.uk/error.html" />
<input type="hidden" name="required" value="realname,email,Message" />
</form>

what error message? this is a form not a script. the one in the action is referring to a Perl script, and that is what is redirecting so im guessing it has missing fields but cant tell what ity wants and personally never use perl scripts

...personally never use perl scripts
I was wondering who does these days? I remember back in the days Perl & CGI was the way to process form data and such. In 2004'2005 it had its popularity peak, but today it seems to be an outdated and dying programming language.

To OP:
Sorry for interrupting your thread, but after reading this I had to see who does use Perl these days.
Do you have a free web hosting plan or something? No PHP installed?

indeed, itdied with two famous scripts Matts and franks if i remember correctly, there was a lot of problems, but then javascript was a pariah for a long time

I managed to work it out there was a problem with my email address. I don't know anything about programming, I'm a designer trying to build my own web site, but I am pleased to say I have the contacts form working and a better understanding of it. :lol:
