I was recently tasked with making some minor revisions to a PHP site that I didn't build. I've been doing some reading up on PHP (no experience with it), and I'm trying to get it going in DW to make the edits.

Here's what I've done so far:

1. Downloaded the public_html folder from the host server to my local machine
2. Backed up original files for safekeeping
3. Configured a new site in DW for local testing with XAMPP
4. I'm pretty sure I've gotten all the directory information correct in terms of DW communicating with XAMPP and where the files are stored (htdocs)

When I try to open one of the .php sites in DW, it looks VERY primitive, the formatting is off, and it looks nothing like what is live.

How do I get it so that I can just load up a .php site and see how it will look live? I realize it might not be as simple as working with standard HTML, but unless I can pull that up I won't be able to fix it.

Could it have something to do with the databases and PHPMyAdmin?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

DW design view is not exact although live view is better. always check in a browser . php is not used for styling, the html section of the page will respond the same as a page with a html extension.
