I am embedding a cartoon video, and have options regarding what format to generate it in. I want the widest compatibility out there, people with whatever browsers or Macs or PCs. Is FLV better or SWF? I had heard Macs have a problem with Flash?

I assume you mean FLV is blocked.
So SWF can play on all those devices and HTML5?

.swf is the flash files format, and .flv is flash's video format.

Macs don't have a problem with Flash only the iOS devices, iPads and phones.

There's nothing wrong with using Flash to deliver your videos as long as you provide a fall back using HTML5 for those that can't access Flash content.

I still prefer this method as Flash is easier to customise and is more consistent across browser. Its a win, win situation if you take this approach.

This site has a great video tutorial to show you how to set it all up.
