help why does my banner not show on the website http://www.reidygeoff.webspace.virginmedia.com/
but it does show in "preview in browser"

The issue is in your CSS dude;

#banner {
background-image: url(file:///C|/local_sites/learning/images/bannerwsk.gif);
height: 25px;
width: 563px;
padding-top: 75px;
padding-left: 405px;
}

See the url points to your LOCAL hard drive. Try;

#banner {
background-image: url(../images/bannerwsk.gif);
height: 25px;
width: 563px;
padding-top: 75px;
padding-left: 405px;
}
