View Full Version : Momentary Landing Page

I don't seem to have the nomenclature down for what I'm after, as I'm not getting usable SE results looking for this.
Bottom line, does anyone have a script or resource for a momentary landing page? What I'm wanting to do is display a static image on a landing page & then redirect to the home page after a few seconds...

The easiest way is to use the meta refresh tag in the head, something like this:
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="2 url=http://www.domain.com/">
So after 2 seconds the page will do a refresh and goes to the home page from domain.com.
There are also ways to do it with htaccess or with a PHP header.

I bet you could find a nice jQuery script that would float an image over the page and then fade out gradually.

Yes, the whole meta refresh thing is kinda weird. The user has no forewarning about what is going to happen, and it often creates more questions than answers in my experience. It still seem to be one of those client requests that requires client education to get past.

John, I hope you have a good reason to keep the visitor hostage for those few seconds ;-)

Yep, the boys are right. The meta refresh is not the most user friendly & elegant way to do this and abrupt redirecting can be bothersome for your visitors, but if you have to use it, just make sure that you let the them know with a message on the page that it will be redirected after 2 seconds (this example).

Agreed, the meta is too direct. I'll go dig up a js & see how it plays out. What's going on here is landing page soundbite & then a redirect.
