View Full Version : Merging cells??

Hi all....I am completely new to web design, so please bear with my questions

I am designing a website and I made the website layout in Photoshop. I sliced all the sections up in photoshop and then saved them as HTML & Images. I opened everything up in Dreamweaver, but now there are 3 verticle slices/cells that I'd like to merge together for a different idea I had.

Is this possible??

Thanks in advance!

OK, stop what you are doing and read this; http://corrosiveonline.co.uk/articles_beginner_mistakes.php

I read through that and it was a very good article.

I do have an understanding of HTML and basic design....I've been doing small things here and there for about 4 years, but this is my first attempt at a larger site.

After importing all the slices and html from photoshop I attached a div tag to the entire layout. Then I would delete each section where I wanted text and insert a div tag there as well then enter text and photos.

Is this still wrong??

Also, is there somewhere I can go to research other ways to build the site using the template I've designed?

Really you should be learning modern website building techniques. Tables and exported code are inflexible, increase page download speed and simply the wrong tags for laying out pages. By all means create your designs in photoshop but you need to hand slice them, save each for web (optimise) and then reconstruct using semantic markup and CSS for styling and positioning. There are loads of resources online for learning the right way. Try; http://htmldog.com/guides/ as a starting point.
