I have copied a whole page of a Word document into Dreamweaver (its a Terms and Conditions page). But I want to increase the size of certain lines or words, and maybe even change the colour of some lines. How do I do it without it affecting the whole document ???

Just don't copy and paste from Word. Copy it into a .txt document to strip out all of the nasty stuff that Word creates in the background and then paste it into your page. Text variations in the usual way with CSS and paying particular attention to the correct use of headers (h1 - h6) paragraphs (p) and lists (ul, ol, li) and you'll be fine. Don't forget the em (emphasis) and strong tags are also your friends!

I made the same basic error and spent ages getting rid of all the formatting carried over from a word doc when I first started. Although I did find that some formatting still carried over through .txt docs depending where it had been copied from, not sure how?

I copied the Word document into Notepad and saved it. Then opened the saved notebook text (.txt) and copied it into Dreamweaver. Sadly it behaved exactly the same as the original word document. If I try to change the size or colour of one line ................... the whole document changes.

you need to make a style then apply that style as a span - around the text you need as another colour

i'm guessing you don't really understand very much about authoring web pages so i would suggest having a look at some resources first

Thankyou thankyou ...... I will spend hours on this site. Just the few I've seen already make sense, and I'm learning all sorts. I am trying to learn basic web design completely on my own. I don't even know anyone who is vaguely interested, so it is not easy. But I'm getting there. This forum is a god send.
