View Full Version : XAMPP "live view" new problem

I set up XAMPP a week ago and it was working a treat. But suddenly yesterday when I launched DW I was asked for the localhost log-in (new) and then when I tried to "Live View" a dynamic page I got an error:

Server error!

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script.
If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.
Error 500

localhost (http://www.dreamweaverclub.com/)

Apache/2.2.14 (Win32) DAV/2 mod_ssl/2.2.14 OpenSSL/0.9.8l mod_autoindex_color PHP/5.3.1 mod_apreq2-20090110/2.7.1 mod_perl/2.0.4 Perl/v5.10.1

It now does this every time.
I can still view dynamic pages in the browser so I guess it's a DW problem, not a site problem. And Live View still works fine for static pages.
Has anyone else had this? Should I reinstall DW?

can you use 'view in browser' from dreamweaver?

No, same error, any browser.

it has to be your dreamweaver settings, check the testing server settings before doing anything drastic

Just realised that I had downloaded an .htaccess file from my remote server and that's what was causing the problem All fixed! Thanks.

Just one last niggly thing - in this one dynamic site, when I select Live View it asks me to save the page before it will display the live view. It's not meant to do that. It didn't use to do that. I don't want to save before I check the live view.

I'm posting this because just the simple act of posting on this forum seems to ensure that the answer occurs to me as soon as I click on Submit - what a great tool!
