Open a terminal window Applications/Utilities

Then point terminal to the folder where the file resides to do this type

cd /Applications/MAMP/conf/apache

This should take you to the apache folder.

To display the contents of the folder type

ls -la

The to change the permissions type

chmod 755 httpd.conf

You can cut and paste into Terminal by the way its not like the crappy command prompt in Windows.
