View Full Version : spry Vertical menu in a seperate Div for alignment?

hi, I have my Spry Vertical to the left of my "Body" Div. The problem is, when I go to view my page, my text is wrapping around my vertical bar which is strange, but I can't seem to fix it. My main content in the "body" div stays in line with the div box but when it gets past the vertical spry menu bar on the left, it goes in under it. Would inserting a "leftBar" div into my spry widget (so select Widget and apply a leftbar Div, is this how its done?) to stop this from happening? I tried this before but when I went to alter my spry, the option of altering it was gone, the widget was corrupt, had to do it again.

Perhaps my problem is my Css for the body div which is 570px wide, could someone please just tell me the CSS for this, which is aligned to the right but 15px from the right of the "Container". When I create it, it just goes in as a box and when i press return it jumps out of the box, I want the text on a return paragraph to stay within the box without having to press Shift return which is causing a <br>.

Can anyone help me with this. I was doing it for ages last night and the thought of facing it again is not nice, especially on a Friday, especially without a clue!

#leftbar {
float: left;
width: 150px;
position: relative;
left: 5px;
top: 0px;

actually that won't help. when you float an object a few things happen:

The object aligns to the left of it's container.
The contents of the parent container wrap around the floated object
BUT the floated object doesn't affect the position of any other content objects in the parent div (only their content)

There are a number of solutions but the simplest is to wrap the non-menu content in a div with id=content and then give the content div a margin that leaves space for the menu:

#content {
margin-left: 160px;

Hi, you are great Mr Dw, used left margin and it worked, used relative, hopefully all will be ok. I was using float and positioning etc and none of it was working, thank you so much for helping me out, I can enjoy my miller a bit better now! Have a good weekend.

Hi, back again, that didn't last long!
There is one problem that keeps reacurring that I can't seem to fix. It is on my return key, when I create a paragraph or copy text into main body div, it jumps outside of my div, have to create a shift return . Here is my body Css and Code. don't mind the <ul>code. Everytime I put the code in it jumps outside my div "content". This is my last thing, I hope, then I think I am ok?
#content {
margin-left: 200px;
width: 570px;
position: fixed;
padding: 0px;
top: -5px;

Here is my Code:

<p id="content"><span class="bodytext"><span class="style20"><img src="../Images/images/Properties.jpg" width="570" height="251" alt="mSq" /><br />
