Hi Chaps

I am about to buy a license for vBulletin and as this wonderful forum has been created with the same tool, i was wondering how easy it is to change the template design and also if there is anything I need to watch before I get it installed. Also it it worth paying them to install it????

It all depends on your technical capability really.

If you have the time to learn how vBulletin works, I'd advice doing everything yourself.

On the other hand there's plenty of free forum packages available.

The install is relatively simple. From past experience I'd avoid:

Modifying the core files.

Making changes outside the admin panels

Adding a lot of plug ins

Which means initially I'd limit my changes to colors and images.

And I'd recommend trying to figure out the styles and template system. It's powerful but take some work to get your head around.

Good luck! Running a forum is a lot of work as I'm sure the folks can tell you.

And BTW, there's a new version (4). I haven't used it so I don't know how much things have changed.

Hi chaps

I have just purchased v4 so fingers crossed I can get it installed quickly and then work out how to change the template to suite my design.

I am luckily only the facilitator and my client is going to manage this element of his site. Not sure if he realises how much work it will be.... I have explained that forums do get busy and that he will need to be hands on.... time will tell.

My guess it's 80/20. Maybe one out of five forums that are set up gets any activity at all.
