Ok - im not sure if this is the best place to start so excuse me if its n the wrong place.
Ive been on a couple of websites where the images have what appears to be a reflection underneath them. Can anyone tell me how this is achieved please? The reflection is not just simply an inverted copy of the image, as only a part of it is visable and that is much reduced in opacity compared to the actual picture. Im guessing its probably done in something like photshop and then added as a second image but it appears to be one image.

definitely in a photo editing suite like photoshop or GIMP. then it can be combined into a single image if wanted

Yes, agreed. This will be done with images, inverted copy of the site and then reduced opacity with maybe a gradient overlay to create the look of a reflection. Time to get busy with Photoshop :)

small amount of blur helps too, unless it's supposed to be a mirror image rather than just a reflection in a 'normal' surface

Like the reflection used on the template section of this website?

Just a plugin for jQuery.
