Hi folks. I'm having a little trouble inserting layers. I can insert a layer, but there is no selection handle for me to move it around. Any ideas? I'm using dreamweaver 8 on os x 10.5.8.

Is the layer set to 'position: absolute;'?

where does that appear? I get no dialogue box. the layer just inserts itself .

It's a CSS style. If you are doing what I think you are then the layer will be given a name like layer21 and you need to find that between the head tags and check it has absolute positioning.

It may just be a setting thing though.

It has absolute positioning alright, I think you're probably right about it just being a setting thing. just a matter of figuring out where though. Thanks for your help.

If it's a setting thing then one of our member's called DWCourse knows his way around all the DW settings. I'm sure he'll be along to reveal all in a bit.

It's Dreamweaver 8! But I'll try.

After you place an AP div (which I wish you wouldn't do), you need to click on it for the "handle" to appear. Are you saying that, when you click on it you don't get the handle? Can you move it by simply clicking and dragging on the border of the div?

And I don't think it's a setting so you might also try restarting the program.

that's it, I don't get the handle, nor can I drag it.

Just position them in the CSS then.

Can you use layers in CS3?

Yes. I think they are called APDivs though. They are just absolutely positioned so they take their position from the top left of the browser window. You need to understand how they work before using them though as they can produce some unexpected results.
