View Full Version : Can't get the correct URL, what am I doing wrong?

I'm pretty much a newb when it comes to making sites and am using Dreamweaver 8, outdated I know but that's what I've been using.
I created a basic html site for my mothers organization, http://prospect-residents-energy-forum.net/, the problem I'm having is that when I enter the url, I keep getting the "Directory Listing Denied This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed." error message.
The only way I can view the site is by entering this url:

Apparently I've uploaded the contents of the website to a folder inside the root directory, called PREFER and have to move the contents of this folder outside of that directory into the root directory but damned if I know how to do that?
I really just want the website to load as it's meant to, the clients are with bigpond hosting (Australia), if that helps in any way.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

get fillezilla a free third party ftp program using that it will be easier to move files or if your hosting has a file manager you can do it from there

I don't mean to sound rude but I don't see how that would work? It's not the files I'm having trouble with, I can move the files back and forth between the local and remote hosts without any problems.
All I really want is to remove the /PREFER/ from the URL, there must be someway of doing this?

your files are in a folder called PREFER so if you want to access them
by http://prospect-residents-energy-forum.net/

move them from the folder prefer and put them in the root thats how it works not the local and remote.
who mentioned that?

If you're using Dreamweaver then you defined you remote site incorrectly (unless pigpond hosting has some odd setup). Check the remote info and delete the PREFER from the end of Host Directory information.

If there is no PREFER at the end of Host Directory then you need to contact pigpond for help.

Cheers for the help guys, I figured out my dumb a$$ problem was staring me in the face the entire time, my own fault, yeah I had a folder called PREFER in the root with everything inside it, that's why it was coming up that way, lol, sometimes it actually helps if you re-trace your steps and see where you went wrong but you were both on the money.
