View Full Version : Error inserting Flash Video

02-27-2010, 12:46 AM
I am trying to load fllash video ( .flv) into an editable area of a html page (based on a template) and I keep on getting this error:

Making this change would require changing code that is locked by a template or translator. The change will be discarded.

This is in and editable region, and table of a new page. I've been able to load quick time videos, but this client has submitted .AVI files which I have converted to .flv through flash.

Please, what is going on?

Assuming you are actually in an editable part of the page (it's possible occasionally to make an "illegal" selection) there's a chance that you've somehow lost the editable region that should appear in the <head> of your document. To insert the flv Dreamweaver also needs to insert a javascript call in the <head>.

Fixed Link....

As far as I can tell, I am in an area that I can insert. I can insert text, but not the flash video.
I've attached the html for the page.

The area that I want to install the video is line 121 where the text reads "View Video Here"

Do I have to do something to the template to allow some of the child pages have flash video? I don't think I encountered this problem when I inserted QuickTime video.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I don't see an issue. Try this save a copy of hte page and detach it form the template (menu: Modify>Template>Detach from Template) then try adding the video. If it works, it's a template issue.

Compare the template version and the non-template versions. If there's code added to the head of the document or anywhere else that might be a locked area.

Okay, I copied the page and deleted the template and was able to add the flash video.

I found new lines of code (16 - 51) between </style> and changing the <body> to <body on load="MM_CheckFlashVersion....

Can I cut and paste these lines of code into the template without changing the look of pages that don't have Flash?

I can insert XML slideshows into the same area of the template without a problem.

Thanks for your help!

I think making the change in the body tag (<body on load="MM_CheckFlashVersion....) is causing the issue. Do you have an older version of Dreamweaver? Making the body tag (in the code) editable might solve the issue but it's clunky work-around.
