View Full Version : Add scrollable txt over sliced images?

http://etherbend.com/keaton/blog.html

Greetings, I am trying to add a large text box over the center image in the above link.

It will simulate a blog. Currently the text/blog is exported as a slice from photoshop, but would be easier to just have a big html based text box that scrolled down.

I have flash pillars on both sides for the space animation so it would just be inside the paper, where the text/blog updates are now.

Not sure the best way to implement this or how to add text over the slice at all.

I will remove the text obviously, and have a blank piece behind as the background.

I tried to make that center slice the background, but I don;t think I did it right. This baffles me. Not sure how to do it, the best way or at all. =)

Any suggestions would be great.

Thank You,
Anthony

incorrect link.
the way you describe is not clear but the best way to have overlayed text is either have a n image as a background then you can add text.
or inset your test into a absolute positioned div inside a parent div that holds your images, that way if you limit the height and have overflow scroll you can scroll the text

Oh, I'm sorry, let me clear that up for you...

http://etherbend.com/keaton/blog.html

I created a slice based website in Photoshop.

The main, middle slice that now houses, the flattened blog, date, more and "news", I would like to remove the text, replace it with a "non text" paper background, and have an HTML based scrollable blog in it's place.

I need specific instruction's on how it's done. When you refer to parents and div's I do not understand.

I am looking for basic instructions on making a text box in that main slice.

Other questions that apply:
How do I make it a background image within the table?

Then, how do I make a text box that will scroll down, like a blog would?

How can I make the font "COURIER" instead of times, or arial?

Is there a way to implement custom scroll bars?

Can the scroll bars colors be manipulated, from blue to "brown" for instance?

Is there a way to make the user-interface, accessible from online?

Could I just make a template for worpress or blog that exactly emmulates my design?

Is that possible?

Sorry for being annoying, Just don't know any other way to get some solid answers, besides asking directly.

Thanks!

its not annoying it would help to see the page or the code as the link you gave returns a file not found notice.
if you used export as html from photoshop this will be a problem.
you also mention tables you should not use them for layout

use divs and it will be easier to do all the things you want later and it will be cross browser compatible which also may be a problem for you later on.
re the scroll bar ,font questions it is a matter of using css / styles to change these
as for the design it self i havent seen it but all designs stem from the applied styles (css).

Im not trying to be difficult but that is realy whet you need to read up on. Ill post a page with divs in a while to give you a push in the right direction hopefully

I created a slice based website in Photoshop.

This technique is so far away from what you actually need to do to create a website it is not true. You have a LOT of learning to do I'm afraid.

Thank You very much for your replies. I guess there is no way to add a scroll box over a PHOTOSHOPPED sliced website... as it is.

I do understand a little CSS, but I was thinking, that this could just be done in DW, and I thought adding a live text box over a tabled graphic would be a cinch for You guys! lol. I do feel better learning, it is not easy.

In fact from the answers I am getting here, It seems I should redesign entirely. Which, because I am a code novice, won't be anytime soon.

Bummer.

Here is the code, not sure why the link doesn;t work, I can see it and so can others...? Another mystery...lol.

GREAT EXAMPLE!!! I will try to bastardize it to fit my needs. I wish I knew how to reassemble all of the slices, so the graphics and two flash pillars, all match.

This is what I want. Just superimposed over that center slice....

Hey, everyone has to start somewhere. So here I am. No need to be afraid. =)

I am trying to learn.

Good! Then you're at the right place to learn... we'll point in the right direction ;)

If you've obtained Dreamweaver then that doesn't mean that you can all of a sudden develop websites. DW is a handy tool that make the life easier of a web designer/developer, but you really need to understand the very basics of HTML & CSS.

This tutorial covers pretty much everything you need to know:

And if you have questions about, just ask!

Ouch! and Thanks! I have been designing for a while. A true enemy of the Code Genius, a graphic designer gone web. << I am guilty of designing, visually first, lol and mechanics last. Mainly a flash nerd.

etherbend.com

It has become a great disadvantage, especially with the recent switch to OOP, and JAVA based standards. I am really lost now! lol.

I will try to teach myself, and solve problems before asking.

Seems like a great community, I don't expect to learn overnight, so get used to Private etherbend barking down here. lol.

Thanks for the welcome guys. =)

http://etherbend.com/blogtest/

Well, I rethought it, I'm still in HTML land and just made a table with 3 columns. My FLASH pillars on either side and a background image in the center. The slices blend perfectly, but now I just need to know how to put the text box on top of the center background image, in the center column...

Also, the "hotspot" tool no longer is available so, wondering how I would do my more and back buttons... I'm guessing they can be linked, using just live text.

Really I am confused on many levels, but the idea of getting the text box in the right spot, under the header and within , the "highlighted" background area, meant to bring out the legibility, boggles me.

It is two flash files and a long center background. Was wondering if this would make it possible?

I tried the "DRAW AP DIV" tool but couldn't get it to draw on top of the background image.

If I just type directly in the center column, it is centered, no padding and will end up over the header... Arghh! =) http://etherbend.com/blogtest/index2.html << Also the background grows, and repeats too.
