View Full Version : Local testing Server?

Currently I am uploading everything I need to test, which I suppose isnt the quickest way to check if somethign works. I know you can get applications that will let you test locally, but which is best, and more importantly - most reliable in its results?

Hi Darren,

Personally I use WAMP (http://www.wampserver.com) which installs Apache, PHP and MySQL all in one.

Not had a problem with it at all but it will depend on what coding language you are using.

I'm sure others will have some suggestions too.

I use a tiny bit of php but 99% html.

Is there any complex configuration to do or does it just work out of the box? I remember years ago I tried setting a linux box up on a home network with apache running and it was a nightmare

DavidJ has video tutorials on this site teaching PHP. They include a vid on setting up the "Tools of the Trade" which include WAMP.

Check them out here (http://www.dreamweaverclub.com/vtm/php-mysql-apache.php).

On my systems I have a LAMP appliance from turnkey linux. I run it in Virtual Box. Setup is as simple as can be and the instructions to do so are very easy.
