I've inherited a site where the client wants to add a new division to her business. She has a client base that knows her as one URL, and she wants to incorporate the new division on the same site, but the old Url would not reflect the new division. So, she needs to change the URL and make a new index page with links to each of the divisions.

So, I need to direct the old customers, who will write in the old URL name, to the new URL. I know it can be done, but I don't remember how. I recall that it is a few seconds delay to get to the new url.

In addition, the new customers will only know the new Url.

I have looked into landing pages and do not understand them at all. I suspect it can all be done thru DW.

Ideas?

If you want all customers to just go to one URL you're best doing this through your host and not using a landing page.

Its usually called domain mapping, just get them to point the URL to the new site. No delay, no landing page, no problem.

Sounds good to me.

I waited so long to speak to someone at GoDaddy that I just gave up and wrote you instead. Will call them again and hope they'll get to me sooner.

Thanks.

you could use .htaccess with a 301 to do this if you dont get a response from them

you can simply redirect them with php or coldfusion if you have the support from you host. You would more then likely have php support over CF.

For php insert only this code in the old sites index.php file. Obviously replace yoursite with the new site address. This works fast and seamless.

<?php
header( 'Location: http://www.yoursite.com' ) ;
?>

coldfsuion version in your index.cfm:

<cflocation url="http://www.yoursite.com">

short and sweet...gotta love CF!!!!
