how to give semi transparent bkgrnd to an image without loosing opacity of image..But without use of any bg. image ???

The PNG format support "semi-transparency." Doesn't matter if the image is used as a regular image or background. But IE6 doesn't support transparency in PNGs without some kind of add-on fix.

i ask without using any background image, means transpaency to bg. color.
