Hi all,

Had my first Dreamweaver tutorial today... very impressed!
I'm an art director for a national publication and use Quark.
Obviously I realise no software is the same but was wondering
if it is possible to set up column guides with gutters?
Using quark I would set up say a seven column grid with 3mm gutter
and use this as the base for a design.
I see there is a grid in Dreamweaver but it does not have gutters...
As I said it was my first tutorial so if I'm asking a moronic question,
my apologies.

You can set up a grid and guides under the View menu but I'm afraid they aren't going to be what you hoped. Basically they're only good for laying out absolutely positioned page elements and that's not how you should be creating a page layout in Dreamweaver.

You need to be prepared for a learning curve designing for the screen isn't like designing for print.

you can try something like this - but you have to be aware of the differences between the media - and that grid layouts have pros and cons if you choose to use them for the web ;)

This is a very different medium, so many of the truths in print can not be applied to web. Without a good grasp of the web, web standards and the medium in general, Dreamweaver can be very dangerous to use.

I'll see if I can dig up a good book recommendation.

Thanks for all your replies. You are all right I do need to look at it
in a different way... it will be done... the learning curve begins!
