I'm new so I've never had to have a client be able to make changes to their website. I know this can be done, but how? Do I need to re-create the pages she needs to be able to change in a different program? If so which one?

There are many ways that this can be done.

If its just certain aspects of a site that your client needs to edit then you could look at using a small plugin CMS like Perch.

If you are wanting a full content managed website that you could look at using something like Wordpress or Textpattern.

CSS tricks has some great tutorials to get you started creating a site using Wordpress but you need to know how to code sites by hand really.

Failing all of the above you could check out something like Adobe Contribute.

It just depends on your skill set / what you want to do.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will go over them with my client and see which one will best suit her needs. Thanks again.

just to add to the mix, joomla/ drupal but although free cms options can often be a problem with site design.
another option if it is just a text change option is to make those pages php and where the text sections are use php includes then after updating the incuded file a .txt file for example the client just upload that file to the server .
really depends on the extent of the changes

It does depend on the changes and how tech savy your client is.

Check out Perch you'll be suprised at how easy it is to do basic edits.
