Briefest possible explanation for 3 columns:

<div id="container">
<div id="leftSidebar"></div>
<div id="rightSidebar"></div>
<div id="mainContent"></div>
<br style="clearflt" />
</div>

float leftSidebar left and specify width
float rightSidebar right and specify width
set left and right margins to accommodate the sidebar widths
set the style .clearflt to clear:both

<div id="main">
<div id="left"></div>
<div id="Right"></div>
<div id="Centre">Content for id "Centre" Goes Here</div>
<br style="clearflt" />

</div>

#main {
width: 800px;
background-color: #000;
}
#left {
width: 60px;
float: left;
background-color: #9F0;
}
#Right {
width: 60px;
float: right;
background-color: #FC3;
}
#Centre {
width: 60px;
background-color: #33C;
}

Does not work

Nor would I expect it to. Try this:

#Centre {
margin-left: 65px;
margin-right: 65px;
background-color: #33C;
}

in the html the order should be #left, #Right, #Centre
