View Full Version : Issues adding a second spry item to a template

I'm having trouble adding more than one spry item to a template.

I successfully implemented a spry tab item into a DW template so that it only shows up on one of the pages in the website: http://merimack.freeshell.org/Platt/dw_WM106.shtml.

Now, I'm trying, without success, to implement a second spry item -- a spry horizontal menu -- on a different page in the same website: http://merimack.freeshell.org/Platt/dw_resources.shtml.

I've added the second Spry item to the template page and it works fine when the template is viewed thru "Live View" mode. When I go to the page which is using the spry item, the drop down menus don't drop down.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If you only want the spry objects to show on one page, why are you adding them to the template?

It is my understanding that spry items MUST be added to the template. If I try to add a spry item to an individual page, I receive an error message that the "<head>" is locked (due to the template). Here is a link (http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/191/858078) to another thread which discusses that issue in more detail.

Perhaps I am mistaken, so please let me know if you know otherwise.

just make an editable region in the head and you can include what you want in that

At least in DW CS$ (and I thought prior versions) there is an editable region in the head of a document based upon a template: <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="head" -->

When you add a Spry widget, an internal CSS style sheet or Javascript, or a link to an external CSS file or Javascript file it gets inserted there.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I think I have narrowed down the error but haven't entirely solved it yet so I have removed the offending code for now from the "Resources" page. I noticed that I receive a DW error message when I try to add the second widget to the template -- the error indicates that there is already a widget defined in this editable field (i.e., that would be the tabbed widget).

In the meantime, I figured out how to make a tabbed widget "optionally" editable on all pages in the website. In other words, I can turn on and off the use of the tabs in any page. 8-)
