I found this interesting plugin app on the web called gridfox. it shows you how professional websites out on the internet have setup their columns. kind of like x-ray vision for columns:

This brings up an interesting question:

I noticed in the examples when you scroll down the page (the NY Times screenshot, for example) the following characteristic:
There are many instances where text is typing across two columns. Its like the typing is ignoring the right-side wall of its column and it keeps typing over into the next column.

Using the NY times example, if you look at the blue title in the upper left hand side of the page "Drop Forseen In Median Price of U.S. Homes", it goes across two columns.

How do you "type across the column wall" like that?

That could solve a lot of things for me!
