View Full Version : vertical bars

Hi - I have two vertical "bars", 3px wide, that frame the site I'm working on. I would like them to run the height of the viewport as the user scrolls down. I already have a tiled background image that fills the screen. I have the bars set now at a fixed height. Can someone suggest what method I should look into to accomplish this?

divs using them as backgrounds and repeat them

I'm missing something. I have a 3px wide x 1px high GIF. Solid color. Background image in a div in the body tag. Repeat-y. It doesn't repeat down.
#left_bar {
background-image: url(redbar.gif);
background-repeat: repeat-y;
margin-left: 125px;
width: 4px;

If I give it an actual height in pixels, it, of course, fills it. I'm just curious to know if I can't have this column fill the available viewing space. It's not at all critical to what I'm working on here, I'm just trying to learn as I go. Thanks.

It's not the nature of HTML elements to fill the vertical viewing space. Most of what we know on how to make websites today would not work if that was the case :)
