View Full Version : FLV Skin

I'm embedding an FLV in my html via dreamweaver but when I select insert/media/FLV, dreamweaver asks what player would you like?

Is there anyway I can add the FLV without a player?

Without a player you cannot display the video on the webpage.

You can make a regular link like this:
Link to FLV

If you open your FLV in Flash and add it as a progressive download, it will give you much more options for the player skin as well as an option to have no skin at all. If you choose no skin it will set the FLV to auto play as there is no other way to play it. To double check if it is set to auto play open the Component Inspector window and look at the Parameters.

Jittor thanks for your post, that's exactly what I was going to try next, which you have now confirmed.

Also, shouldn't I be adding a preloader to this FLV video? or can I do without one?

I just want to make sure I'm going about this the proper way.

I've also been told by many that I have sinned by adding a video to the first page. I understand that this is not the best option but what do you do when a client wants it.

what do you do when a client wants it.
thats subject to discussion but i think advise and explain why not but in the end the customer is right even when they are wrong iif they are paying for it

edbr is right, try and explain why it is not common practice to have video on the home page. If they want it make sure the explain to them that you need to give he viewer the option to skip the video if they don't want to watch it, loads to long, or they have seen it before.

As far as preloader it depends on how large the video it, but it is good practice because it allows the view to see something is loading.....something is going on

Jittor, I just finished this project and have uploaded it here (http://blimpmedia.com.au/toniandguy2/), Let me know what you think and if the load time is acceptable.

I'll tell you what.... this project made me tear my hair out, I experienced a lot of problems trying to achieve this...

I think here is a typo in the URL on the Enter link on the homepage. Goes to a page not found.

domedia, I've just checked it and HERE does work.

Try this: http://blimpmedia.com.au/toniandguy2/

That URL works fine. Like I said, when I click the "ENTER' link, a page comes up 'not found..
