I understand that you should always try make your headings a h1 tag for SEO benefiting.

Does this then mean that the text below should be in a h2 tag?

or placing it in a <p> tag is just as good?

search engines give more importance to H1 tags it helps with keywords for your site
h2 h3 exetra are given imortance in decreasing amounts
only use h1 once per page btw

You've got some odd uses of <br /> in there.

Also use h2 as subheads and h3 as sub-subheads, etc. Any added seo value of using h2, etc. would rapidly disappear if the tags were applied to large blocks of copy.
