width i would say 800px if not 900px. Layout in css, keep it tableless. the look of your site will depend on what you want it to look like.

I like 950px for width

Hi,
Thanks for replies, I am assuming that the wider width will cater for more people as they have wider monitors than previous, would I be right in assuming that ??

Cheers,
Nick C

My stats indicate 3% (usually less) with 800 x 600 monitors so about 960 pixels wide should cover almost everyone.

Check you server stats. Google Analytics will give you info on monitor resolutions.

Remember that other sites visitors does not equal yours.
Also that the higher the resolution, the least likely people are to have their browsers maximized.

I didn't realise that google analytics could provide this information on browser types and resolutions.... this is excellent, anything above 1024 x 768 seems to be the best size to use which would fit as more people are getting wide screen monitors... very interesting....
