View Full Version : Images aren't displaying in Dreamweaver site

My website is not published so I can't give you a link yet but I did get an image for you of what I'm getting instead of my banner and nav bar. I am hoping someone can help by answering why they are not displaying on the DW Site. When I just double click the file for my nav bar, it opens right up in Dreamweaver, just not able to insert it into the column on leftside. Also, the banner was displaying fine until a couple of days ago. I didn't start worrying about it til today when I tried to load up my new nav bar.

Thank you in advance to anyone who might know the prob. I am using Firefox and I don't know if clearing the cache is usually recommended but I did do that already. By the way. I stopped using IE because I couldn't view images, just got the little icon in the upper left? And now I am hooked on Firefox, like it way better. Denise(newbie here as well as in Dreamweaver). Oh, one more thing, I exported the menu from Fireworks and it is fully functional. And as I mentioned, it did work in Dreamweaver, but not in the site I am building there. I have not tried uploading anything to my website yet though:)

My first question would be is your site defined correctly. And my second, are you images where the links say they should be.

the links are correct but I am not too familiar with site definition. I think it is right as I followed the tutorials through Adobe. Could you ask me an easier question:-D lol;) denise

rechecked the links, all good to go. Now I am re-reading the site definition part of my tutorial:) denise

Ok, on my hard-drive I have a folder called "All Development files" and in that I stored everything I've made. Then, in Dreamweaver, I made a site called "My 1st Site" and put in a folder for html, css, images. and my page documents(files)are under the html folder and so on. I think this is right?? But I am new like I said. Thank you for your help JR, denise

PS I may not be on the rest of the evening as I am leaving for dinner in about 30 minutes.

better to have web pages in the root folder (My 1st Site) than in a seperate folder, or would be better to say no nee to put them in a se[perate foleder as these will be the main pages for your site . then when someone goes to www.my_1st_site.com it will open the default page

I believe they are in a "root" fold DW. I need to make sure though. I, again, am using tutorials and that was what we started with. Local folders and then comes remote. I think, lol, ttyl, I need to run for now. Thank you for replying. I need to check out the tutorial and make sure I have followed it correctly, but, I believe I have and my images not showing is one thing, but for my image of the banner that was showing and now is not, well, I just don't know what's going on:) denise

Actually, that site structure looks very confused.

Web pages (certainly at least the home page - index.html) should be in your root directory (where mockup html is now).

Images, logically enough, could go in the images folder.

Templates and SpryAssets are fine.

The html and "html and images" folders are redundant.

But even with a bad site structure, your images, etc. should work. We'd actually need to see the code of a page (or better yet an uploaded page) to help you out.

Since my site isn't published I will give you the code for index.html. I hope this is what you need:) I can fix my structure. I thought because I made the folders and files all in My 1st Site that it was correct.

<p align="left">A captivating State is my Oregon. I traveled far and wide in my 56 years but as Dorothy says in the Wizard of Oz &quot;there is no place like home&quot;. My whole life has been about Oregon, even when I was away, it was about getting back home. Now, building my first website, it has to be about a neverending passion, and that for me is my home-State. I love every part of it from the majestic coast-line that meets the Pacific Ocean to the Eastern border towns full of history and generations of Oregonians. To the Northern border and the mighty Columbia and to our Southern border where some of the mightiest of trees reside, the Redwoods. We don't know where the file is so it's hard to know the problem but you have image links link this:

src="Wooden%20Menu%20bar_r3_c1.gif"

That would require that the file Wooden Menu bar_r3_c1.gif be in the same folder as the page the image appears is on.

To be honest, I think you need to do a little studying about structuring your site and how links work. at the very least, find a tutorial about exporting FW to Dreamweaver (although if you plan to make additional websites in the future that's not a good choice_.

I work with tutorials, and have used one for every step. There comes a time when I have to ask someone though because there are a million tutorials and some are not so good. It is not that easy to find a tutorial.

If you don't want to help someone than don't. It's really not a requirement here I'm sure. Thank you for the time you took to help with what you did.

I'm happy to help folks and my advice that you find a way to understand the structure of websites was also meant to help. It's just more than I think most people can explain in a forum setting. I'll butt out of this thread now.

Bit harsh. DWCourse is one of the most helpful & knowledgeable people on this forum and you should see that we don't mind noobs at all. DWCourse gave you good general advice.

Try here for tutorials...

grasp this...........if you two are on the "welcoming committee" for this site the owners of the site might want to rethink their choice. Surely none of you that I've met on this thread are self-appointed. But then again, I suppose this is a form of "help". Your "club" "helped" me right back out the door:) That's fine with you all I'm sure. I could see how irritating it must have been for you to even see my questions, let alone feel you had to answer them. I'm juth't th'o thorry, and one more thing, P~~~~~~~~~~!!
